Gloucestershire Ladies County Golf Association

Had a rivetting day yesterday. Angela picked me up outsdie Waitrose at 9.15 am and off we went to Westonbirt for the AGM at the Hare and Hounds. Absolutely pissing with rain and as we passed through a particularly large lake in the road - Angela told me that that particular flood was outsdie Highgrove gates - you'd think his RH would do something about that for us poor mortals passing by. Fortunately we were early so had time to get to the front of the queue for the loo. Angela appeared to know everyone but then I discovered later that she had been a county captain herself so I was in illustrious company. However I've never seen so many old bags like me in one room at once! Still I was not at a fashion show I had to remind myself. I quickly noticed that all the young pretty ones were at the front. Very wise I thought.
The officers sitting at the top table were mighty impressive - particularly the President who ran the meeting in an incredibly relaxed style and c learly incredibly knowledgeable which made me feel hugely ignorant - how have I managed to play golf all these years without realising how the
heirachy of the county work and operate. The Captain was particularly impressive and the amount of fixtures and events throughout the year was awsome but particularly the achievements of the team who were the onces at the front - young and very pretty! I was so proud and thrilled that Alison from our Club was among the elite 6. WOW! And then when it emerged that one of the champions (who plays all over the world) and her partner (can't remember name) were the ones that beat Alison and Hilary in the finals on the 18th in the Watson Williams I thought what a fantastic achievement Alison and Hilary had pulled off.
The thing that struck me most was how young these girls had started playing and how dedicated their partents must have been and how dedicated the volunteer county coaches and selectors were.
The Association had also decided to make 5 life members - 2 of whom did come from Cirencester - Anne and Diana (thank god they were both chosen - I can't imagine the outright war that would have ensued) Very funny typical of Anne when she 'graciously'thanked the Association for their recognition to the past she said 'Well I won't go on too long - there's been far too much this morning as there is' I mentally put my head in my hands and giggled - typical - totally unphased she might be offending the 200 odd women in the room!
I could do a bit more gossip here but better not - one doesn't know who will read this. But to conclude Alison, bless her heart won of the important cups - another feather in our cap for the club.
Today, was the Senior's Ladies Lunch at which I had to respond to the Senior Captain's toast.
I spent last night rehearsing and then gave myself a migrain this morning - pure fear I have to say. But it was okay - Paul tried to hijack me before the response but in the end I was able to tell the Seniors they were extremely hansome and envied throughout Gloucestershire and wished them lots of birdies in 2010. I think they laughed as well as clapped?
